Fabulous Home Offices

It's great to have a dedicated home office space, and it's even better to have one that is beautifully designed to make the time you spend working more inviting, pleasant, enjoyable and productive.  When you work outside of the home, you might not have much say about what your work space looks like, but when it's in your own home, you can make it as nice as you wish!  So go for it!  Here are some of my absolute favorite home offices.  Hope you enjoy!

Walking Through Wind and Rain to Meet Michael Boodro, EIC of Elle Decor Magazine.

Last Wednesday I walked through wind and rain to attend the Fall Market presentations at the DDB (Decoration & Design Building) in New York City.  The person I was hoping to meet was Michael Boodro, the Editor-in-Chief of Elle Decor Magazine.  But I most certainly did not want to meet him with my bad hair!  (Oh well).  Mr. Boodro  gave the keynote speech of the day's presentations to a standing room only room of designers.  Part of his discussion included what consumers are looking for now and more specifically what does the word "luxury" mean to people in today's market?  After conducting a survey of 2,000 members of the Elle Decor Designer Registry, the findings showed, not surprisingly, that consumers are willing to pay for  location, good unique design, high-end quality materials, and fine craftsmanship.  But, scroll down to see examples of what ranks high on consumers' lists of "wants" or "luxurious must haves" these days.  There has been a slight shift in what people value now -- it is interesting to point out that spaces that used to be considered private or off limits are now the very spaces that people want to show off!

First, the SPA BATH, pure luxury and so beautiful!

Second, the CUSTOM CLOSET...who wouldn't want a closet like this?

or this, Wow!

Third, the HOME GYM, gotta get that workout in, no excuses here!

Or here.

And fourth, the OUTDOOR KITCHEN, what a way to entertain!
After your workout, you can have that cheeseburger in style...

Or some fresh watermelon!
And finally, Me (on a bad hair day, but happy) with Michael Boodro!  When he first took over as EIC of Elle Decor two years ago, I wrote to him, and he wrote a very kind, handwritten note back to me!  I was impressed!  Such a nice man.

I hope you enjoyed this look at some of the luxurious must haves of today's consumers!  Feel free to leave a comment below, share this post with your friends or contact me via my website if you need design assistance.  Have a colorful day! Nanette

OMG, I Married A Bedroom Set.

When I got married almost 15 years ago (anniversary coming up soon), not only did I get a husband, but I also got a complete bedroom set -- one that I had absolutely nothing to do with selecting!!!  It was his, and it was ok, but it wasn't what I would have chosen.  I, on the other hand, had a bunch of separate things that we used in various rooms of our house.  "His" bedroom set consists of a beige Scandinavian style "man's" hutch, a "woman's" dresser" and a platform style bed with attached shelf headboard and two attached side tables.  This furniture weighs a ton, and it's there, so how can I justify moving it or buying new when it is perfectly functional, and nobody sees it but the two of us and our two kids?  It's a frustrating mini-dilemma, and definitely a case of "the cobbler's children not having any shoes" so I guess I'll just have to keep dreaming about my perfect bedroom for now.  Here's a look at what it might be like...(the Marilyn picture is just for some glamorous fun!).

Have you inherited furniture that you have absolutely nothing to do with?  Tell me about it in a comment below!  And thank you to Olioboard for providing me with the most awesome design tool ever to bring my fantasy bedroom to life (almost sort of).  Feel free to leave a comment, share this post with your friends or contact me via my website if you need design assistance.  Remember, don't be afraid to add some color to your life!  Have a colorful day!  Nanette

Olioboard - My New Love!

Oh no, just what I needed, another online addiction to keep me at my computer even longer!  But this one is a time saver for sure.  My new worthwhile addiction (with no sugar or carbs involved) is Olioboard, a wonderful visual tool for interior designers and design enthusiasts to bring their ideas to life almost instantly on 2d or 3d inspiration boards with real products from popular brands.  A picture is worth a thousand words, and I believe, in this case, that is so true!  Olioboard -- I think I love you... (kiss kiss).

Must C. Wonder ful

This past weekend I took my teenage daughter and her best friend to the mall for some back-to-school shopping.  I'm not a big mall person so I'm not there very often, but after 3 hours of walking around, I was DONE and ready to LEAVE, and then there at the spot where I had planned to Exit the mall was THIS -- a fairly new beauty -- C. WONDER, the most beautifully designed store I had ever seen!!!  You can check out their website, but this is a must visit experience, trust me.   Oh thank you thank you C. Wonder.  Would you look at that Gorgeous High Gloss Green wall -- it was calling my name "Nanette, come in, Nanette, come in."   Ok, I could stay a little longer.  "Girls, we're going in HERE!"  Follow me through the Green Doors...  Come on... Are you coming?

The vibrant green walls CAPTURE you, then the floor...
Ok, you're in for a treat...
Smart, fashionable clothing at reasonable prices.
Glitz and Glam.
Colorful home decor I can't resist.
The nicest and most original eyeglasses display I have ever seen!
Handbags and Accessories (my weakness).
Graphic Colorful Dinnerware -- Love.
A plate with my initial on it!
And you could find one for yourself too.
And my personal FAVE -- the Green Enamel Box,
I'm sure we will be seeing each other again in the near future.
Love, Nanette
I hope  you enjoyed this tour of C. Wonder.  I know I did.  They are located in New York City, White Plains and Garden City, NY, Paramus, NJ, Atlanta, GA, and Newport Beach, CA, with Pop-Ups in Southampton and Nantucket.  Feel free to leave a comment below, share this post with your friends or contact me via my website if you need design assistance. Hampton Designer Showhouse with a Sequin on Top!

Every year I visit The Traditional Home Hampton Designer Showhouse.   The houses are always so impressive and the proceeds from the shows benefit Southampton Hospital.  It's fun to see the magnificent new builds on the gorgeous properties year after year.  I love showhouses, and there's always a good cause attached!  But this year, I found something ELSE unexpected afterwards, scroll down...

When I started this blog I said that I was going to share anything that had to do with COLOR and/or interior design.  I am a color fanatic; I am very attracted to colorful things -- and I am also a lover of jewelry (what woman isn't?).  After the showhouse I was wandering around the beautiful Town of Southampton with all of its trendy shops and restaurants and stumbled upon the window of Sequin, a super colorful jewelry boutique chock full of the prettiest glitziest shiniest enamel bangle bracelets, with necklaces and earrings as well.  I love glitz, and I love enamel.  I couldn't help myself, I had to go in, and then, of course, I had to buy a bracelet.  I wanted to buy about 20, but I had to control myself.  Check out their website, or better yet, visit a store.  The prices are reasonable and in my opinion would also make great gifts.  Their stores are located in Southampton, Chicago, Newport, and Palm Beach or you can shop Sequin online.  Feel free to leave a comment below, share this post with your friends or contact me via my website if you need design assistance.  Have a colorful day! Back to School -- The Kitchen Table Homework Nightmare

Does your kitchen table look like this during the school year?  Mine does, and it's a constant unsightly battle to keep it clear.   If there's one thing I hate about the school year, it's the homework on the kitchen table.  My kids aren't the only contributors to that mess, my stuff is on there too!  How are we supposed to eat dinner?  I can't possibly be the only one with this problem, am I?   My kids both have desks in their rooms, but do any kids ever do homework in their rooms?  I doubt it.  If I could live in my most perfect do-it-over world, ... (see below)

my house would be designed by the Houston architectural firm of Parker Stuckey and I would have the most perfect and absolutely gorgeous all-in-one Laundry Room - Backpack/Mudroom - Homework Space.  I think this is the most awesome and functional space ever!  In the Parker Stuckey Residential design, the space is directly off the kitchen and has a full-sized stacked washer/dryer, generous storage space, cubbies and hooks, a slate floor, and work areas for the kids (and the mom)!  It makes complete sense to me that the homework area should be where the backpacks are neatly stored and NOT on the kitchen dining table!  Wish this was my house.  Have a colorful day (and a neat and productive school year!).  Nanette
