You've Just Bought Your Dream Home, Now What?

You've just bought your dream home, and you're a busy professional or parent or both!  How do you go about turning your new house into the stylish home you've always dreamed of, especially with your work/family schedule?   Chances are you are feeling more than a little bit overwhelmed and you might not know how or where to begin.  You might be considering hiring an interior designer, but you’re not really sure if bringing someone in to help is right for you because you want your home to reflect your style.  The reality is that you stand to benefit greatly by hiring a designer.  A designer will start by asking you the right questions about the way you want your home to look and feel, discovering your needs, wish list and budget.  He or she will help you prioritize your project by putting the “to do” list in the proper order – for example, space planning comes first, paint colors come last, did you know that?  Once your designer has all the necessary information, the ball gets rolling.  While you are busy at your job doing what you do best, your designer is doing what he/she does best – using their creative, artistic abilities with laser focus on your project, and scouring the marketplace for the most beautiful, current and budget friendly products available.

Your designer will save you time and energy by doing the legwork for you and prevent costly mistakes that you might make on your own.  In interior design, the choices and possibilities are virtually endless, but your designer will happily find that needle in the haystack that’s perfect for you!  Your designer will personally bring the best of the best designer trade samples directly to your home and help you with decision making.  Designers know and work with trusted fabricators, trades people and vendors.  They keep the process moving along toward your goal of turning that empty house into the functional, comfortable and beautiful home you’ve always dreamed of and will be proud to show off.  Don’t hesitate to hire a designer.  If you hire someone with whom you have a nice rapport, you will be beyond thrilled with the end result, not to mention how easy and enjoyable the experience can be!

White to Bright Challenge!

Hi all!  Recently I was asked if I was up for a challenge -- to style a room from White to BRIGHT!!!  As I have never ever been one to shy away from color, this was pure fun for me!  The challenge was given to me by Chairish, an exclusive, curator approved online marketplace for design enthusiasts of all things vintage -- furniture, art, decor, jewelry and accessories.  So cool!  Have a look by clicking here.   I needed to select any chair from the Chairish website and style it up with BOLD color.  I chose the White Club Chair With Navy Piping because white is what gives strength to all other colors, by contrast.

Here's my styled board!  Is this BRIGHT and COLORFUL enough for you?  (If you click on the board it will enlarge to see more detail, my favorite thing -- the vintage phone!)  And I always like to include my little friends Lucy and Honey right up front, they're so cute!

I hope you like my colorful style board, and I hope Chairish likes it too!  If you would like to view their entire collection of accent chairs, just click here!  As always, please feel free to leave a comment below, share this post with your friends and/or contact me HERE if you need design assistance.  Have a colorful day wherever you are!  Thanks for reading!

Office Update!

Hi all!  Today I'm happy to show you my updated (actually cleaned up) home office. Working from home is great, especially when you love your home office, as I do.  I designed it for my husband and I a few years ago and it is definitely one of the most used rooms in our home!  It's colorful, light and cheerful.  Recently though I have been so busy with my design work that my pretty office was taking a beating with samples and catalogs all over the place.  I really couldn't stand how messy it was becoming and knew I needed something else to help me organize everything that was out of control and taking over my space.  The answer was this great inexpensive system I bought from Wayfair (love Wayfair!) -- the Foremost 15" Cubicle System in White Finish.  Each cube is 15" square, and you can arrange the cubes vertically or horizontally, PERFECT!  I arranged them horizontally, as you will see.
Here are some "BEFORE -- (MESSY)" pictures of my side of the office:

Then after putting together a few of the Foremost cubes (takes a little while to do), here's the "NICE NEAT AFTER":)  Ahhh.  A Place for Everything, and Everything in its Place!

MUCH BETTER!!!  I am so happy with how it turned out!  By the way, the other thing I added was a custom sized mirror to the top of the cubicle system to hide the fact that each cube is separate, makes it look much nicer and pulls it all together.  Finally, here's a little something I feel like saying to my clients sometimes...

JUST KIDDING!  I always take good care of my clients, and they know it!  Here's a photo of what the rest of the office looks like, and for honesty sake, let's not talk about the hoards of fabric and wallpaper samples that are all over my dining room table...  shhh.

I hope you enjoyed this look at my tidy office update!  As always, please feel free to leave a comment below, share this post with your friends and/or contact me HERE if you need design assistance.  Have a colorful day wherever you are!  Thanks for visiting!  Nanette

The Beautiful Mudroom -- I'll Take It!

It's February, and it's been a rough winter so far, with lots of snow and ice.  I was hoping that this winter might be a little easier than last year, but unfortunately that has not been the case.  During times like this, your house can easily become a mess of coats on the backs of dining chairs (my house), with hats, scarves, gloves, boots, and shoes all over the place, not to mention the floor getting dirty from the sand and salt from the outdoors. Coat closets are usually filled to the max with all kinds of outerwear, and kids (and adults) are not the best at opening the packed coat closet, taking out a hanger and trying to squeeze their coat/stuff in between everything else that's already in there.  And, the coat closet might not even be near the most used door (again, my house).  That's why I wish I had "The Beautiful Mudroom" which so many builders/homeowners are opting for these days (smart).  Today I would like to feature some of my most favorite functional and stylish mudrooms.  Can a mudroom have style?  The answer is:  Yes, definitely!!!
